Academic studies, brought to you by Wal-Mart, not so positive about Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart, trying to polish an image as beneficial to communities, sponsored some academic research. But with an interesting twist: “[T]o make sure the findings were credible, the company turned over management of the conference to independent consultant Global Insight, which pledged to select papers only for their academic rigor, not for their pro-Wal-Mart bent.” I think I’ll just leave it right there.
